Hello everyone !
Bonjour !

Walking and eating are two things I really enjoy, especially eating. That's why I was happy when I learned that I was able to participate in the event that was held this morning in Uchinomaki area, Aso city. All the participants gathered in Uchinomaki where the mayor gave a speech before singing a song to wish us a nice walking day. The mascots Akaushi-kun and Hinoko-chan were there to encourage us too.

This event called Onsen・Gastronomy Walking gives to the participants the opportunity to taste some of the local specialties while enjoying a 8km long walk. During this walk you'll be able to see different view on Mount Aso and the outer rim of the caldera. If you enjoy taking pictures there is many good spot for it along the way. Everyone was able to walk at his pace and I found that it was a good thing that the event let you take your time when you want to.

The main attraction was the different kind of food we were able to enjoy on 6 different point during the walk. The first stop was at the HanaAsobi where we ate a delicious salad. Perfect to take some strength before the long walk to come. The salad was slightly seasoned but the participants who wanted more were also able to add some salad dressing.

Then we stopped at a stand planted next to the Fuku no Kami. A well known place to pray if you want to win the lottery. There we were able to drink some soda made in Aso (Aso cider), Aso milk and a yoghurt drink made with Aso milk. I already knew all this product but it is always a pleasure to enjoy them especially on a day so hot.

Our third stop was at a restaurant called Aso no Yamaboushi specialized in Dengaku (vegetables or fish grilled with charcoal and on a stick). We all got two sticks, one with Konjac and the other with fried Tofu. Both were to enjoy with a miso paste. I'm not a big fan of Konjac but the fried tofu was really good.

The fourth stop was definitely my favorite. People were also able to enjoy some sake (Japanese alcohol) but since I'm driving I just took some water... Anyway the food there was just chicken grilled with charcoal but it was so good and the seasoning was just perfect. And the view was also one of the best from there so that's why this is the place I stay the longer.

The fifth place was a food stand surrounded by beautiful views on the outer rim and on Mount Aso. This time we received a Takana pickles rice ball and a local soup called Dagojiru (made with a miso base soup, many vegetables and dumplings of flour).

The last place to enjoy food was in fact the same place where we started our day. But this time there was a new stand with Akaushi beef! Just delicious. My only regret was that there wasn't more to eat ;). For dessert we also had a Manju  (steamed yeast bun). But it wasn't finished because after filling a short questionnaire we also received a ticket to enjoy some time in a hot spring of our choice nearby.

I'm still tired of all the walk I did this week but it was all worth it. Today was really a nice experience and it was also an opportunity to meet some of the other participants and exchange with them. There was for example an English man  living in Oita participating in this event and with whom I was able to talk about life in Japan. I was also able to speak with many Japanese participants who were surprised to see me there. This was the first edition of this new event and I really recommend you to participate in the next edition. It was really fun and only cost 2000 yen! See you soon in Aso!
