We are now in the middle of the rainy season here in Japan. This morning it was raining a lot and that's why some tourists came to our information desk to ask if there is places to enjoy despite the weather. So I thought it could be a good idea to introduce you to some activities that are available whatever the weather.
Aso Shrine and the shopping street
When it's raining a lot you may want to get cover in some interesting shops. Near Aso Shrine you will find a shop street with an old atmosphere. You can also expect some diversity there because you can find many kinds of shop such as restaurants, souvenir shops, book shops and even antiques. It's a very good and entertaining place to wait for the rain to calm down.
Uchinomaki Onsen village (hot springs)
You want to stay outside without being bothered by the rain. Why not try an outside bath! There is a lot of hot springs in Uchinomaki in different types of facilities and with really different atmospheres. If you feel to shy or embarrassed to enjoy onsens with strangers you can also choose a private one. The top may even be a private outside bath with a view on Mount Aso (If it's not too cloudy because of the rain of course). Note that every month on the 26th, the entrance is free in many hot springs in Uchinomaki. It can be a good way to try them!
Indoor activities
Less than twenty minutes by bus from Aso station is the Cuddly Dominion. This kind of zoo with pets offers also many indoors activities to enjoy. You can take a look at their website via the following link:http://www.cuddly.co.jp/
Near Aso Shrine, a shop called Tommy's propose you to experience making stained glass and others kind of crafts. http://tommys-aso.com/

This only a few recommendations and there is many other things to do even when you can't enjoy the beautiful nature because of the weather. The weather can change really quickly here and even of it was raining a lot this morning, it is only cloudy now.
