Today, I will introduce you to a place I discovered just recently, the Ikeyama source. Wednesday, I was able to find some time to bring the Taiwanese interns to different interesting places in Aso. Our manager suggested to make a stop at the Ikeyama source, a place I have never heard about before. It is situated in Ubuyama village on the way to the famous Kurokawa hot spring. It takes around 50 minutes by car from Aso station to reach the source. The water here is ranked among the 100 better water in Japan. It is also a good place to escape the heat of summer and enjoy a delicious clear and fresh water. We spent sometime here enjoying the atmosphere of this place before going back to Michi no Eki Aso. There is many sources and spring water spots in Aso, so if you're interested do not hesitate to ask us on the comment of this blog, on our Facebook English page or directly at our information desk. See you soon in Aso!

You may have noticed that the last blog entries was written in English and traditional Chinese. For five consecutive days, we had the chance to welcome six Taiwanese interns at Michi no Eki Aso. They also worked or will work in different places in Aso: Nature land, Sozankyou (a Japanese traditional inn) or at the city office. It was the occasion for us to show them all the beautiful places in Aso that are still accessible. We went to many places as you saw on the previous entries of this blog. Among the places they enjoyed the most there is the Daikanbou viewpoint and Aso Shrine. We did our best to explain why we love so much Aso and I think they easily agree with us. They also helped us a lot by translating maps in traditional and simplified Chinese or explaining many cultural aspect of Taiwan I had no idea about. I really think it will help us guiding Taiwanese tourists in a more effective way. So from all Michi no Eki Aso's staff, I'd like to thank them a lot!

-Local festival

Last night in Aso it happened to be the first day of a two-day long festival. To the local people of Aso this festival is held every year in order to commemorate the gods that protect their children. To begin the celebrations early in the afternoon children from the local elementary school parade around the city hoisting a shrine and offering boxes. The group of children makes stops at every local business seeking donations and inviting people to the fair held in the evening. The event held in the evening takes place in a field set up with stalls similar to the night markets in Taiwan. Stalls selling finger food, barbecue, beer, and fun kid games. Because this event is to celebrate the well being of children, many towns people brought their children often dressed in their traditional Yukata. Besides the stalls there also was also a main stage where performances such as traditional Taiko drums, singing, even a special folk tale reenactment performed by local middle school children. Having the opportunity to attend a traditional festival was an extremely special experience; we hope every one can have such opportunity to experience the rich local culture.

Hello. We are undergraduates and graduate students from Taiwan. Yesterday we begun our two week internship in Aso. Our visit has been provided by the kind people of Aso, for the purpose of learning about this city and its rich tourist opportunities, to be shared with our families and friends back home. This is all of our first time to visit the wonderful city of Aso. Surprised by the majestic view as we were driving into the caldera. Green pastures that extend to the top of the mountains and forest with trees that seemed to have been mindfully organized.
During these two weeks the group is to be separated into two teams, in order to effectively work with different groups in a short period of time. During the first three days our team will be working along side the dedicated staff of Michi No Eki.
Michi NoEki has provided a central location for local producers to showcase their products, passerby can select fresh produce, dairy, pastries and souvenirs to either purchase as gifts or choose to use the shipping method to have the products sent anywhere in the country. Not only that, Michi No Eki also provides Aso area information for anyone who looks to expand their knowledge about this site.
We hope that everyone can have the opportunity to visit this wonderful place. Although Aso has suffered many damages to its infrastructure after the Kumamoto earthquake in April. We believe that anyone who lays eyes on this beautiful landscape would completely forget these obstacles.
